Maria

Here's my completed piece on wood following SuziBlu's week 4 class. We used modelling paste to create an aged effect....I think I've discovered a new love! I can't wait to start another one....

Here's the progression.
And the finished piece. At least I think its finished.....it's really hard to know. What's interesting is as soon as you put a photo on your blog you can see all the faults. I can now see that her nose is a bit wonky and her lips aren't symmetrical........but I quite like that.
Some close ups.....

She turned out beautiful! I like the halo effect you have going and that her face isn't perfect. It gives her character.

I really like the aged effect with the modeling paste too! I'm only still on lesson two(?)I've completed the sketches and now starting color.

Maria is so beautiful and you are so talented. The fact that her nose is 'wonky' and her lips not symmetrical makes her more human, and I hadn't noticed anyway. I think she's lovely just the way she is. Love the texture you have introduced and am looking forward to the next one!

She's beautiful! .... my own nose is very wonky :) .... and my lips are quite unsymetrical .... as well as the rest of my entire body (lol)

the modeling paste technique is intriguing to me ....... gorgeous use of the gold flecks

It's lovely! I really like the hair colour and the halo. I think it's good that her face isn't 'perfect' - more real.

Yes, it's odd how things look different on the blog but then people aren't symetrical (?Sp) so it's fine that she's not (not that I'd noticed tbh).

I love the texture here and look forward to seeing your next piece.

Oh wow, Maria turned out beautiful!!! I want to learn this technique now. I love how it makes it look more aged and gives it so much texture. I love her and I can't wait to see your next one.

Awesome Linda, I can't believe you finished her already, she is just a beauty and I want to know what the bits of gold are please :)
I am the same, I noticed my girls nose is wonky as you call it too when I took the photos, but I think it is due to the molding paste and where I sanded it. Anyway real faces are not perfect.

Maria is beautiful!

Very touching....

eally lovely. You should be pleased with the result..not criticising.
It has a certain 'seriousness' to it which goes well with the iconic subject.

Maria, Luana and your journal pages are so full of sensitive journaling touches and a passionate and joyful celebration of colours and textures. They are a triumph Linda! What a brilliant start to portraiture. Such soulful faces.
The way you can make all those different art mediums sing together is just fantastic.
I hope you continue with it.

P.S. Can you join us in the Sept challenge....we all have bad hair days and I have had quite a few of late so thought it would be great to see how we can come up with some ATC's on that theme.
'Bad Hair Day'
Please say you can make it for this challenge..no presure..lol.
