Digital collage - photo from Wikimedia Commons (free), clipping mask from Lynn Grieveson at Designer Digitals plus various layers and textures.
I love this photograph of my MIL when she was a girl in the early 1920s (with her mother and siblings); she is the one on the left. Its a delightful composition - although a litttle precarious I suspect! She would have been 89 next month but sadly she died yesterday from heart and kidney failure - she had been in hospital for over 6 weeks.
So once again, in the space of only 2 months, my DH and I are grieving the loss of a parent and organising another funeral. But at the same time we are aware of how lucky we are that our parents both lived long and happy lives.
At the weekend we made this box between us (DH cut up the MDF and I glued it together). Today I am going to gesso it ready for decoration. It has a very special purpose.....I wonder if you can guess what its for. Maybe you need a clue?
Mmmmmm....... its not very conventional........and you might possibly be a little shocked when I tell you. Or maybe not? :-)
As you can see, its over 12" tall.
What do you think...........?

Quite a few of you have asked if I would show a tutorial on making Lotus Flower Books. I'm not up to making videos yet so I hope step-by...

Could it be for holding your husband's mother's ashes? Maybe that's a wild guess, but if it's so I'm sure you'll decorate it in the most lovely way to honor her life. Sorry for your loss.
Oh Linda again so fantastic digital art. Love the flower. Great.
My sincere condolences Linda. Such a loss is never easy but following on so soon after another makes it doubly hard. Your photographs are beautiful, pity that health and safety have put pay to such images.
Is it a bird box?
So sorry about your dear MIL, 6 weeks is a long hospital stay.
BIG hugs to you and yours! The photo is absolutely precious with some very good little fence sitters!
Your Life collage is beautiful and the quote just perfect too!
My guess on the box is perhaps out of the box ... as I am thinking cremation?
All to best to you always dear Linda!

Hi dear Linda,
Again, I am very sorry for the loss of your mil. I think you have a great attitude about it, you did have her in your lives for a very long time, I can't imagine living that long. Bless her, being sick for so long.
On another note, I love your new digital work, I love all of your work digital or otherwise. As for that box I am guessing it is for books or magazines? Although that would be too easy, has to be something else :)
I can't guess - tell me tell me! You're going to keep something in it - 12" rulers? I already know you're going to alter it.
So very sorry to read your sad news. As you say almost 89 is a great age. Only time will help to make the pain a bit easier.
Hi Linda, so sorry for you & your DH.
I think it would make a good memorial house, fitting for an urn. If I'm wrong I'm REALLY sorry, but I thought that, as it's in the same post as the sad loss of your Mil.
Do I dare post this....?!
Looking forward to seeing what treatment you give it (if you ever speak to me again!)
Love the digital collages. As to the box, I need another clue!

So sorry to hear of a second loss for you and your husband. That's a beautiful photo of his mother and family. You will both have many happy memories to enjoy, given time. Your new flower image is lovely. I'm intrigued by the box and look forward to seeing it finished and to finding out if I am right about it's purpose.
sending you my best wishes at a difficult time
Sorry to hear about your Mother in Law.
Well you certainly have me intriged! Its too small for a new craft room...or is it?
Too small for a garden shed? Have you got a little birdy in your garden?
I give up ....what are you going to do with it?
Hi Linda,
So sorry for your and your DH's loss. What a lovely photo of hers.
I had a great time catching up with you and look forward to seeing your new creation.
Hi Linda - I am very sorry for the loss and grief your family is and has been going through in these last few months. I hope the coming of spring will offer some relief and happiness in the midst of sorrowing.
I'm guessing your 12" (that's big!) house will be a bird house :)
p.s. I have a blog award for you on my blog ..... because you have a "beautiful blog!"

Hi, Linda. So sorry for your loss. And so closely on the heels of another. My thoughts are with you!
I am very sorry for your loss; from her photo she looks like she was a lady full of life and definitely loved her children.
