Our challenge on the Big Art Adventure this week is to make a set of inchies.I decided to do a 'celebration of women' and thought I'd use yet another chunky block from the pile at the side of my table (thank you DH).
My starting point was my mum....I've been thinking a lot about her recently and the amazing way she copes with my dad. Dementia is bad enough, but dad has physical problems as well and can't really do anything for himself. Mum is almost 80 and you would not believe the things she does for him. Not only that but she seems to have more and more patience with him as his condition deteriorates. So....one of the pictures on the block is of my mum. She likes seeing my artwork every time I go round (I always take my latest efforts in a little bag to show her) so I hope she likes this.
Before I go...... I want to thank my Suziblu workshop friend Shonna for giving me this award. Her paintings are just gorgeous and she is doing some wonderful things for Christmas. I recommend you take a look.

Isn't it amazing the things our Mother's do? Mine has been gone for almost 18 years but I still look back and am in awe that she accomplished with 8 kids and an Air Force husband who was always gone. You are a lucky girl to still have your Mom...hug her for me. *smile*

My mum went through that and my dad looked after her. It was wonderful seeing the love between the two of them. I know how hard it is for your mum and you, I am thinking of you.Your work is lovely.

I love the way you have personalised this one by including your mums picture, how lovely. I bet she will be so impressed when she sees it.
These chunky atcs are a huge success, and you have really inspired alot of people and I can see these blocks will be adapted in many ways over the coming months. They look great and have so many different possibilites.

Your mum must be an amazing woman. Her picture speaks volumes of her and I love the wooden block you did with her picture. It is a great tribute to her and I am sure her heart will be overflowing when you show her how much you love her through your artwork.

What a lovely tribute to your Mum to use her as inspiration and great blocks.
Dementia is an insidious disease and coping with it can be soul destroying. A friend of mine said that not only had it stolen her future with her husband but had also stolen their past and their memories - so sad.
Lovely work and it's good that you can share it with your Mum and give her a focus outside the illness that she and your Dad are coping with.
