My Colours....

I've been happily working with my favourite colours over the past two weeks. Maggi and I spent a great day together at her house just over a week ago. She showed me how to do nuno felting in her fab garage/workshop.......

Maggi at work

First attempt below; front and back. I worked on a piece of dyed silk and laid wool and silk fibres on top before wetting, soaping  and rolling. The final step involved whacking and bashing - great fun :-) Hopefully if you click on it you can see that the silk puckers and creates a lovely effect.

Second piece; front and back.......my fav one. Looking forward especially to sewing on this. Not sure which side to use though!

Maggi kindly gave me a piece of blue cotton velvet to use for my Spirit Cloth cushion.

I extended the stitching out onto the velvet.....

......et voila!

I now want to find something to stitch around the edge........maybe :-/

Peachy has been helping me choose fibres and fabrics for my latest sewing project.....
...he doesn't damage them. Honestly. He just goes a little crazy sometimes.....
I can empathise with that.... ;-)
The elegant Nectaroscordum has almost finished. It's now making me think of fairy castles.........

........so sweet.

And finally.....DH and I decided to make the most of the glorious weather and went to Monsal Head in Derbyshire last weekend. We haven't been there for years and had forgotten how stunning it is.

The viaduct used to be for trains...but now its cyclists and walkers only.

If ever you get a chance....go there :-)

Wonderful post and what a pillow...just gorgeous! Of course you had me laughing again ...as the Prince was up to no good...omg toooo cute. Maybe the fibers smell like catnip to him or in a prior life he was a quilter and it just gets him excited:) you know like when I see paints and stamps and things lying about I feel like doing the same thing,,,don´t you?...have a super Thursday!

Peachy looks like he is a great help!!!!! I can relate to that going *crazy* with fabric though...I know how he feels.

Your cushion has come up a treat and I love your nuno felting (my favourite kind of felting, nuno felting).

What fun for your to get together with Maggie...very envious of that wonderful studio of hers.

could just imagine cycling along that viaduct..perhaps one day I might take the kids camping there! I dont think you need an edge around that fab cushion as it would detract from all the work at the centre. Got the page by page book from the author yesterday so will be working on that soon..great photos and art on here as usual (thanks for visiting my blog and pity you having to take 16 kids up the liver buildings!!!)

I love those colours Linda and nuno felt too - you've created such lovely texture in your pieces. The cushion is beautiful just as it is. Peachy obviously takes a very active interest in your work and must be a boon when you need slightly distressed fabrics! The photos are hilarious. Your weekend away pics are stunning - great location.

I was reading your post, loving your vibrant colours and thinking I'd like to try nunofelting someday when I just burst out laughing at Prince Peachy's antics, isn't he adorable. I have to lock my wool away from Billy as he will do the same. Love the spirit cloth embroidery extending onto the velvet, inspired :)

Another fabulous post Linda! I just love your spirit cloth cushion - it looks really sumptuous. What a great idea to put the spirit cloth onto a darker piece of fabric - it really works so well - I think I would like to have a go at something like that with mine, if you don't mind. I love it.

I think Peachy has a very special talent for selecting fabrics and trims - he certainly seems to be giving it his undivided attention! Aren't cats funny!

Your felting looks good - I have never done it but it looks quite intricate - looking lovely.

Cor, what a studio - wish our garage wasn't so full of BICYCLES! I am really intrigued by the spirit cloth - I love the way you've integrated it into the background with stitch.

Oh my, what fun you had in Maggi's garage. I'm not envious or anything, honest ... Absolutely LOVE your spirit cloth and the new cushion - particularly like how you've extended the stitching, which looks fab. As for that darling pussycat, better not invite me to your house or I may kidnap him!!

What a great post Linda. I just love the cushion and I wouldn't add anything to it. Peaches has such good taste, of course. I keep telling myself to get over to Bakewell and do the Monsall Trail, beautiful photos. Should have tidied the garage for the photo shoot!!!

What fun spending a day in Maggi's workshop, I just LOVE what you created, and I also love your Spirit Cloth pillow, and all the digital work, you have been a busy girl :)

What a great post. I love the pillow. And I can totally relate to Peachy's fun with fabric. I sometimes feel like throwing all my fabric onto the floor and just rolling in it :)

And the pictures of your outing are beautiful. Thank you for sharing a little of your world.

Love the way you've softened and continued the edges of the spirit cloth piece into that lovely deep coloured velvet. Wonderful detail.
