Journals

I've been so engrossed with my journalling experience in recent weeks, thinking what a wonderful new experience it is for me....but actually it isn't quite new.
Many years ago we used to tow a caravan to France, or go camping with friends and I'd forgotten that I used to write journals every holiday for about 10 years. It was so easy then.... I just had a book, glue stick, a small watercolour palette, a couple of brushes and a pen. I would sit outside every evening and write down the events of the day, paint a few pictures and stick things in. Anyway, I've just been rummaging around in cupboards and I've found them all. It was lovely to read them again - so many things I'd forgotten about.

The backgrounds look horribly white to me now...but here are a few samples from my journal pages. I'm being brave here...... they are quite a contrast to what I'm doing now!
I'm going to Soller in Majorca soon - maybe I'll take a journal and some paints with me! But this time I'll pre-paint the backgrounds!

Thank you for being brave. I love your little illustrations and watercolors. It is fun to go back to work we have done in the past. I found some collages from 16 years ago. One day I may scan them and post them and even digitally alter them.

Oh Linda, how lovely. Its great to look back on them. I think they are fine, I hear what you are saying but they look sweet, the illustrations are wonderful and they are part of you, but my how you have grown, your work was lovely then , but it is wonderful now. It never ceases to amaze me just how beautifully you manage to get every colour and patturn to blend together as if they had always been one.
Was it art that you used to teach? If not then I think it should have been, You should consider being a part time Creative Practioner, Jaqi xx

You were a talented painter even back then, Linda! I really enjoyed a peek into your "old" journals.

They are a great record of a lovely time. I don't do it and I should. My son went to Soller last year, he was staying with a friend in deia which sounded really lovely. Have fun.

Hi! I've just discovered your blog. I just love the journals and would love to do something like that - why does a blank page frighten me so much? have you any tips for starting off/

I do love your work! This reminds me a lot of Sara Midda's work. I was blessed to find 2 of her books (in excellent condition) at a resale shop recently. One is a journal that I can fill in with my own observations and one is a published watercolor journal from her tour through the south of France. Absolutely awesome. Are you familiar with her? I have not known about her for very long.
